Did you know? Barnet is the first borough in the country to go smartphone-free in its schools. 

Smartphones are an unnecessary distraction in the classroom. Our children should be learning and playing with their peers without a world of potentially dangerous content at their fingertips.  

I worked closely with organisations like Smartphone Free Childhood, local parents, and teachers, I’m proud to say that our efforts paid off: Barnet schools went smartphone-free from 1 September 2025. This is a credit to the strength of our local community and its will for a better future for all. 

With all 103 primary schools signed up, and secondary schools following suit for at least their Year 7s, we’re giving kids in Barnet their childhood back while protecting their futures
